To Experience Healing Jesus Removes Us From The Crowd

Away From The Crowd And Outside The Village With No Return

And Jesus sent him home, saying, “Do not even go into the village.”

In the Gospel of Mark we see a deaf and blind man being healed between chapters 7 and 8. In both instances Jesus takes one away from the crowd and the other outside of the village. After being healed he informs the latter not to return to the village.

Here is a valuable lesson for all of us. In order for us to be healed from our spiritual deafness and blindness that we may both hear and see Christ, it is important to be removed from the village or crowd that symbolize the world.

A retreat into the Sacred Heart of Christ in private, provides the appropriate conditions for spiritual growth. After we’ve been healed we must not go back to the world (village), but go home and reorganize our new life in Christ.

In their Letters from St.Paul to St.Peter, they’re always advising us to experience a spiritual revolution of the entire mind and being. They explain how important it is to separate oneself from the world in a spiritual sense, and here Jesus teaches that even physical removal from the busy crowd and the worldly ways of the village, is almost always necessary.

This is why spiritual retreats with the Christian community or on our own, are crucial if we want to continue hearing and seeing Christ in our daily lives. If we don’t allow ourselves to be removed from the world by Jesus, we risk being deaf and blind to his majesty.
