Yes, I am one of the unfortunate ones who will be spending my Christmas day waiting for people to forget it’s my birthday. It really doesn’t bother me all that much because I’ve grown accustomed to it since the day I was born.
Like all birthday boys and girls born on the Bermuda triangle of birthdays, we get used to hearing the same old questions. “Do you get two presents, or one present combined with a, “happy birthday and Christmas to you” message?
The answer is. . . I GET WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT IT AND HOWEVER I WANT IT!!! I’m just kidding, I normally get what I’m given if I’m to be honest.
We tried one year when I was a child to have a birthday cake and sing the whole happy birthday tune, but it never lasted. Some people see it as a curse, but I view it as a major blessing. It is a humble day for me and the time of year where I get to lower my head that everyone may see Christ. To see Christ being wished a happy birthday while I take a back seat is no small task, especially for a proud sinner like me.
I know deep down inside of me (and I don’t say this with a bleeding blip from biting it) that Christ has given me the opportunity to learn who really is the King.
This year may have been another ordinary one, but this year my wife has surprised me with a video from a well known and beloved actor John Challis. He is famous for his role as “Boycie” in the greatest and longest running British sitcom of all time, “Only Fools and Horses”. She managed to get him to send me a personal greeting wishing me a happy birthday while in full character as Boycie.
I have been watching the show since I was a little boy and not one episode has escaped my notice. To have a personal greeting from him means I don’t feel so bad about turning 36 this year. I also do not feel bad about anyone ever forgetting to wish me a Happy Birthday ever again. Boycie has certainly saved the day.
Watch the video:
Well, let me wish you a happy birthday in advance 🙂 My nephew, in Scotland, has his birthday on the first of January. Hence, that tends to be overlooked, forgotten or downplayed too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEPHEN! December 25 is also my birthday. Like you, I am humbled to share the day with the Savior of the World – regardless of whether it is the actual day of His birth or not. I praise His name for giving Himself to be born of a human at all – to leave perfection and glory to live among imperfection, suffering, and death to save sinners like me!
I’ve had this birth date much longer than you. I’ll be 68.
