My grandfather had a friend in World War II who was crossing a river in Japan. His friend was a great violinist, and my grandfather great at the harmonica. They would sing and play their instruments around the campfire, such as their joy for their music. One day, as they journeyed across a deep river in the jungle, a choice for his friend arose.
Why do I like it? I love the sorrow and humility in it. I see myself as every character in the painting. At one point in my life, I was like Christ the betrayed, then the betrayer, and sometimes the soldiers. But there is another character I see myself as.
I've discovered something about nature that I don't really see others take notice of. Nature is itself an open book of wisdom left to us by God. Through the movement of the world, seasonal changes, there is a lesson the Lord leaves each one of us.
